ANCIENT COINS. JUDAEA. Herodian Dynasty, Agrippa I (A.D. 37-44), AE 23mm, 11.93g, 12h. Mint of Caesarea Paneas, year 5 = A.D. 40/41. ΓAIΩ KAIΣAPI [ΣEBAΣTΩ ΓEPM]ANIKΩ, laureate head of Caligula facing left. Rev. NOMIΣ BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΓPIΠΠA, LE (in exergue), Germanicus standing in triumphal quadriga right, holding a sceptre (RPC 4976; Hendin 1240; AJC II, 2). A wholly exceptional and spectacular example, an extraordinary portrait and a very well-detailed reverse, extremely fine and one of the finest known examples. Very rare.
